Job Posting: Digital Organizer

Position Summary:
The Digital Organizer will lead the development and implementation of GC’s digital strategies, online visibility, visual and written content production, online-to-offline engagement paths, and capacity-building for digital organizing; and will help coordinate the integration of these with other parts of GC’s work. They will also have responsibilities for Grassroots Illinois Action, our affiliated 501c4 organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute digital strategies for the organization that advance our campaigns and mission, including by developing the organization’s social media profiles.
  • Train and build the capacity of our member organizations and staff to integrate digital organizing technology in their roles.
  • Lead teams in the development of compelling, branded visual and written online and offline content, such as social media graphics, actions emails and pages, fliers, factsheets and popular education materials.
  • Design and manage effective ladder’s of engagement that connect our online outreach, offline field work, public actions, and leadership development.
  • Use metric tools to continuously analyze, assess and develop recommendations for all online, social network and new media strategies.
  • Cultivate active, diverse online communities that engage supporters, grassroots constituencies and key audiences.
  • Maintain an informed understanding of current developments around issues and campaigns that GC works on as well as current social media trends
  • Participate in GC team meetings, other organization-wide activities, and additional roles and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 2 years minimum of experience in organizing or communications with a background in social media content creation/management.
  • Great storyteller: understands how to construct and share compelling, engaging stories.
  • Able to synthesize and distill: Can break down big complex issues into their components and essential elements.
  • Able to hold multiple perspectives: Can think through different perspectives on a topic in order to develop distinct content for different audiences.
  • Familiar with online organizing tools and practices, including the basics of social media management.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with grassroots leaders, staff, and the public.
  • Willingness to work occasionally long and irregular hours for crucial but finite phases of important work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Super organized and able to meet deadlines with ease.

Nice to Have:

  • Spanish language skills are a plus.
  • Publishing, layout and video editing skills are a plus.
  • Proficient in Zoom, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Google Suite, Slack, Asana, VAN

Work Environment:

  • Position can be based in Chicago
  • COVID-19: Grassroots Collaborative has made shifts to address the continuing difficulty of the pandemic on our emotional and physical health.
    • Chicago area staff are working remotely until it is safe to return to the office. Central Illinois based staff work remotely on a more permanent basis.
    • For the duration of the pandemic, we have a 4 day work week, with Full Time Employment defined as 32+ hours, with Fridays off. (There will be exceptions, where more working hours are required, including on Fridays or over the weekend.)

Compensation:
The salary for this position ranges from $55,000-73,000 depending on professional and lived experience.
